Foods for The Eyes


Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, a carotenoid pigment which is an essential precursor for vitamin A. Deficiencies in vitamin A are the leading causes of blindness in the developing world. Carrots contain lutein, an important antioxidant. Lutein-rich foods are known to increase the density of pigment in the macula.


Containing famous vision-promoting compounds lutein and zeaxanthin, kiwi seems to be the perfect fruit for maintaining vision and protecting against macular degeneration. Lutein is a phytonutrient known for protecting the eyes from free radical damage by helping filter out damaging blue light and ultraviolet light.

Swiss Chard

Swiss chards contain high amounts of lutein, an antioxidant essential for eye health and may possibly delay or prevent the onset of age-related macular degeneration. It contains beta-carotene, vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc, lutein, zea-xanthin, quercitin, kaempferol and many other disease fighting compounds.


Figs contain a high amount of Vitamin A which increase eye vision and prevent macular degeneration. Also, figs have many health benefits due to their rich nutrient content. They are a source of several essential minerals, including magnesium, manganese, calcium (which promotes bone density), copper, and potassium (which helps lower blood pressure), as well as vitamins, principally K and B6


Herbal use of Eyebright, or Euphrasia rostkoviana (syn Euphrasia officinalis, dates to the 14th century when it was described as a cure for all eye maladies.
